Are we smart enough to stop making avoidable mistakes?

Someone once said that if you don’t know history, you will be doomed to repeat it.

Unfortunately, our town government seems to be making mistake after mistake.

And the biggest ones have been avoidable.

In the last two years alone, we have shot ourselves in both left feet on the issue of hiring a Town Manager, obtaining and then failing to implement and oversee a multi-million dollar grant to “rebuild” the Strand, an entirely counter-productive attempt by two Commissioners to restrict the opportunity for public comment at Commission meetings, and failure to comply with both state law and our Town Charter with respect to management of our town elections.

Errors like these breed mistrust, amplify divisions and distract from bigger long-term issues that need to be addressed.

Can we trust our current Commissioners not to keep repeating the pattern of bad decisions? I have the experience to help us make needed improvements, minimize damage already done, and avoid repeating errors.
